"PHOTOGRAPHY IS LIKE A LANGUAGE TO ME, IT IS MY STRONGEST FORM OF COMMUNICATION."
Ross Oscar Knight is an international photographer and speaker capturing lifestyle images and documenting culture. His commissions include work for Verizon, lululemon, Random House Publishing and Southwest Airlines. Ross currently serves as the Director of Photography for Syracuse University in Central New York.
Knight’s interest in photography began in grade school when a teacher gave him a disposable film camera as a way to communicate differently because of his childhood stutter. He realized that by weaving visual moments together as stories, he was able to speak clearly in front of his class during “show and tell”, and that’s when he fell in love with the transformative power of photography.
While photography remained his passion, Knight pursued a career in electrical engineering and business development until a genealogy search for his multiracial roots and his thirst to travel prompted a change. In 2007, he left his career in the utility industry to follow his dream of becoming an international photographer. To date, he has traveled to six different continents to observe, participate in, and photograph cultural ceremonies and commercial work that fulfill his passion to understand and communicate the beauty of the human story.
Knight’s work has appeared in prominent media outlets across the globe including CNN, Oprah Winfrey, HGTV, the NBA, Forbes and Essence. Ross is a trusted member of the Professional Photographers of America, a former adjunct faculty at the Art Institute of Atlanta and served on the board of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. He is the author of a book about male emotions called In His Moment.
